Lukáš Jasanský and Martin Polák’s primary expression means are photographic cycles based on repetition, series or archive elements. These characteristics can be applied also to the new set of photographs Jasanský / Polák / Karny that will be exhibited in the House of Photography, Prague City Gallery, for the first time. The photographs were taken in a country that is both “near and far from” the Czech Republic and inspired by the regional genius loci. Thematically, they deal with various phenomena and relics of post-socialist countries, but more generally, they focus on history and the passage of time. The series is “shrouded” in a softening nostalgic veil; however, one can also feel the authors’ uncompromising ironic distance.
